I agree with you, Shandy. I want this game to be beautiful. It's going to be much tougher with Rogue to Redemption to pull off the loveliness of some of our previous games. Most of the game takes place either inside the castle or underground. But that won't stop us from having some stunning scenes in this game.

Although I may be a little biased because I loved Shadows of Darkness, I was relieved when I saw this post after seeing some of the drawings from the home page. Part of what made your previous games so amazing was the fact that they were works of art. They helped evoke emotions of where you were, which really pulled you into the game. It also helped really make the world you were going through seem much bigger than it really was. I loved it when you reached the gate to the Castle and it was just so far in the distance. It's things like that that games today are missing that I hope you guys can bring back!

Thanks, Adam,

Yes, with Hero-U, we are creating a unique game experience and environment, but we want to make sure that fans are not turned off before they even get to play the game. In many ways, this game is even more about storytelling. It will immerse you into the life of Shawn O'Conner and the interesting people he meets at Hero-U. You get a chance to determine Shawn's fate, his relationships with other people, and solve the many mysteries that surround him and the school.

The fantastic art, programming, and music will all help create the unique experience of Hero-U. By embracing the more traditional art style that QFG fans love, we have a chance to enrich the entire game.

I really like the new art and the new hero look personally, but I don't think it's necessary to compromise your vision to cater to people that want to see a new QFG. I believe your strengths are story telling and immersive game experiences, which is *why* QFG is so popular. If you prefer a more emotive look, I think that's what it should be.

My two cents: make the game *you want* to make and when it's done and a playable experience I think (well I hope) fans will appreciate it for what it is, even if it's not QFG6. It came from the minds behind QFG.

While Hero-U has many ties to Quest for Glory, it will be a very different game series. We started out the Kickstarter thinking we could make a much simpler game than what we are doing now. However, the minute we tapped into the QfG fandom, we realized that we had to give our fans much of what they loved in Quest for Glory. However, you will find that Hero-U is no QfG clone or remake.

We have two incredible painters on our team - JP and Terry are both fine artists. We are making full use of their talents. They will give a painterly approach to a tile-based game.

As for music, we loved Seibert's theme for QfG, and we loved Chance Thomas's soundtrack for QG5. Our composer for Hero-U, Ryan Grogan, has already composed 20 pieces for the game ranging from "Music to Wash Dishes by" to the "Mad Scientist's Suite." We will have a soundtrack CD that rivals the quality of QG5, but has more whimsy and magical moments.

We have more music for Hero-U right now than any other game resource. Ryan is fast and he is good. We consider music to be as important to the mood of the game as the art is. So don't worry, we will make sure that the music is an integral and essential layer over the beautiful artwork and fascinating story.

I wanted to also chime in with my support for the new art direction. Although I was thrilled from the outset that you guys were returning to your Quest for Glory roots, I was extremely concerned about the art style you had previously shown. Irrespective of taste, it just really did not seem to mesh with my concept of a spiritual successor to Quest for Glory (and I'm a fan going back far enough that I still have to check myself from calling it Hero's Quest!). Seeing this new art style is extremely heartening, and I'd like to thank you for having the guts to weather what surely must have been a big decision. It's the right one!

It's probably too soon to say, but what about the music? Mark Seibert's scores for the first three Quest for Glory games were absolutely sensational. I don't think he's in the game business anymore, but whomever you choose, I really anxiously await updates on the music side of the game, and I hope we'll be seeing regular updates from you guys from here on out.

I'm impressed and gladden to see the move to the more visual style that Quest for Glory was known for. Thanks a bunch for putting your faith in us to see this project got funded and I can not wait to see where this goes. :)

Alas, the Cartoony version of Shawn garnered a lot of seriously negative comments on the style. I can understand it. I loved the charming art style of the first Monkey Island games. The later ones were more cartoony and didn't seem like the same sort of game visually.

So since most of our supporters are from the Quest for Glory heyday and really want to see QfG6, we worked to make Hero-U look more realistic.

However, Hero-U is a very unique sort of game. The familiar look will attract the Sierra fans to buy the game, but they are in for much more than the same old familiar Adventure Game.

And don't worry, Shawn is not your old QfG hero. Shawn is a spunky, cocky, clever guy who isn't afraid to piss off people.

The game will look more like a Sierra game than our Kickstarter screen.. It will have 2D characters moving around a slightly isometric world. The picture illustrating this article is a composite of our area paintings and our actual in-game character. Each distinct area of the game will have a beautiful painting created digitally by JP Selwood that will determine the look of the area. For all our presupporters who chose to get a canvas print, they will get to pick the area of their choice. Believe me, I'm going to want a canvas print of every one of them.

However, this game is going to be done with tiles. We had a tech demo yesterday to determine how best to display the tiles with Unity. All of us were doing happy dances afterwards. This won't be your old Quest for Glory style or your isometric Diablo 1 look. We've gone from doing a retro game to state of the art.

I can't wait to show the actual screen shots.
