How to Help
October 19, 2012 in Uncategorized
The Kickstarter is now live at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1878147873/hero-u-rogue-to-redemption.
Lori and I are relying on all of you to be our ambassadors. Please respond to comments on the Kickstarter page and on other forums (e.g. Kotaku, Mashable, RPGCodex, etc.). Be respectful and polite even to the trolls. Don’t speculate on what might or might not be in the game, because someone might take it as official. Try not to spam any of the forums, and do NOT get into any flame wars. (In other words, if you respond to someone, and they make an inflammatory response, IGNORE it and don’t post a follow-up. Idiots will be idiots, and sometimes smart people will be idiots too.)

Alright, it’s official people! Let’s spread that link and use the proper channels and methods to do it! If you’ve given the news to other sites before, be sure to give them updates!

You can count on me

Do you have time to read all posts or would it be helpful to you if we summarised the most frequent questions for you here?
Corey said on October 20, 2012
Summaries would be very helpful. I got over 5,000 emails yesterday from Kickstarter and am just a *tad* busy answering questions. I also have a little trouble reading this site; the color scheme isn’t ideal for me.

hehe ok
From the Kickstarter message board, the most frequent questions I’ve seen so far are:
- Why did you make the descision to go with 2D upper view instead of 2,5D (like the QfG games)?
- Girls are saying that they like RPG:s where they can choose to play as a female character and are wondering if it’s going to be possible in Hero-U.

@Roger: The art is for budget reasons, and also because it gives us more tactical combat possibilities. If we hit stretch goals, we could open it up to the backers whether they’d rather see the QfG look. But otherwise, it’s way too expensive and would take budget away from other parts of the game.
(Clarification: QfG5 had a 2.5M budget, and exceeded it by about 2M. QfG4 cost 1M to develop. The last time we managed to do a 250K game with the QfG graphic style was 16-color Hero’s Quest when most of the artists were earning $18K/year. Modern AAA game budgets START at $5M and work up from there. The launch budget for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was $200 MILLION. At least $40M of that went into the development budget (much of the rest was advertising, hype, and probably bribes to the major store chains – yes, that’s normal for a big game). We’re asking for $400 THOUSAND, which will give us a development budget of $260 THOUSAND, not million.)
For the girls, the protagonist in each game is fixed… but two of the first four planned games feature female protagonists, starting with the Wizard in the 2nd game. We have some great stuff planned for her, but first we need to make Rogue to Redemption happen.

I was hoping the Wizard would be female. Shades of Erana and Katrina there.
I am hoping the Paladin will also be female. So far, all the paladins from the QFG games have been male.

By the way, our RPS interview is now up at http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/10/20/interv-u-lori-and-corey-cole-on-going-rogue/. It has some great illustrations, “kick-arse”, it seems.

I think you should post these answers on the FAQ part of the Kickstarter
Bradley Macomber said on October 21, 2012
I think this is probably a great idea in general. Corey, y’all’s responses to various questions have been very well conceived and phrased, I think, and if you can try to collect all those answers in one place, I’d like to think it’ll satisfy more people more easily…
James (StarRunner) Rolls said on October 21, 2012
Oh, that interview even clarified some things for me!

Over on the Kickstarter comments, speedster very wisely pointed out that the QfG and Lori Cole Wikipedia entries (Corey doesn’t seem to have one) are out of date and should say something about Hero-U and the Kickstarter campaign. Are there any volunteers to update these and maybe create one for Corey? The Two Guys from Andromeda Wikipedia article could serve as a guideline for an appropriate amount of detail. If no one else does this soon I will attempt it myself, but I’m hoping there’s an experienced wiki-smith or expert Cole historian among us who will seize this opportunity.

Alan Luckachina has volunteered for this task!
Corey said on October 22, 2012
That’s a terrific idea. As you probably know, first-person info is not allowed on Wikipedia, so I’ve never edited Lori’s page (well, maybe once) or tried to make my own.
Wikipedia loves references. Here are some that someone could add:
